Most southerly of the West Indies, Trinidad and Tobago are one nation but two contrasting islands. A former British possession, they gained independence in 1962. Crude oil, asphalt, and agriculture make Trinidad the economic hub of the area. Throughout its history, diverse peoples have settled here which is reflected in its architecture today – English churches, Muslim mosques, Jewish synagogues, and Hindu temples.

In the capital Port of Spain, home of the vibrant calypso, highlights to see are the 200-acre Queen’s Park Savannah with its flowers and trees, and White Hall, former office of the Prime Minister. Nearby is the wildlife sanctuary The Asa Wright Nature Center that is inhabited by some 75 of the island’s 400 bird species.

Twenty-two miles northeast of Trinidad is lovely

Tobago. Seven miles wide and twenty-six wide, it has verdant mountains, white beaches, and sparkling waters colored by exotic flowers and birds. Here you will find excellent snorkeling and diving at Buccoo Reef Marine Park. For golfers there is St. Andrews Golf Course in Moka founded in 1892.

Whether you would prefer the large resort facilities or the inimite guesthouses, Tobago has an excellent choice of Hotels, Resorts, condominiums, small, intimate guesthouses, timeshares and apartments. There is a property to suit every taste.

From the bustle of Port of Spain to the natural beauty of Tobago’s beaches and forests, these islands offer an interesting and varied destination.
