Attractions in Phuket

 Phuket is home to many beaches, but each seems to have its own personality and charm. Here are some of the favorite beach destinations.

 Patong Beach

 This is one of Phuket’s most developed beaches and is located 8 miles from town. Stretching almost 2 miles, if offers windsurfing, snorkeling, sailing, and swimming. Patong Beach is also known for its throbbing nightlife. Its seafood restaurants are especially popular.

 Bangtao Beach

 One of the longest beaches on the island, Bangtao Beach is the site of the Laguna, a complex of 5 hotels and golf course. Accommodations are also available at the south end of the beach.

 Kata Beach

 An exceptionally lovely spot, Kata Beach, located some 12 miles from town, is quieter than Patong and is ideal for family outings. You can see Bu Island nearby and the beach has a backdrop of verdant hills.

 Karon Beach

 Twelve miles from town, Karon Beach is the second largest of Phuket’s beaches. There are large resorts here, but they are not located on the beach itself. Divers will enjoy the coral reef that is found here.

Phi Phi Islands

 The smaller of these two islands was the site for the remake of the film The Beach with Leonardo Di Caprio.

 Similan Islands

 Numerous small islands, mostly uninhabited, make up the Similian Islands. Here the waters are crystal clear and the habitat of a variety of fish and other marine life. An superb site for diving!

 Wat Chalong

 This temple located 5 miles out of town is the site of the statue to the patriot Luang Por Cham and memorials to various temple leaders.

Phuket’s Aquarium

 Visitors will enjoy the aquarium, located 6 miles from town at Panwa Beach, where they can view colorful tropical fish and other marine life found here.

 Maikhao Beach

 Some 24 miles from town, Maikhao Beach is the place to go to ‘ get away from it all.’ There are no tourist facilities here, just miles of deserted beach where sea turtles come to lay their eggs.

 Koh Hey

 Often just called Coral Island, Koh Hey is renowned for its coral reef that is ideal for divers. Although part of a marine preserve, it has lodgings and restaurants. Boats to the island depart from Rawai and Chalong.
