Lisbon is located on the southwest side of the Atlantic Coast and is the capital of Portugal. It dates from over 19 centuries and in 1147 was conquered by the Moors. This elegant and unique city offers interesting attractions and activities through day and night. In the Baixa, the downtown area of Lisbon you will discover Lisbon's eldest quarters. One of the most relevant ones is "The Alfama,” which displays a lot from its original layout and stayed put during the 1755 earthquake. Others fantastic quarters are the Castelo and Mouraria, which are located in the western and northern sides where the exclusive St. George's Castle rests. Heading to the west side, you will encounter Madragoa and Bairro Alto and on the western side, Belem, whose Tower protects and surrounds the entrance to Lisbon. Visit the Jerónimo´s Monastery, a masterpiece of Manueline architecture and was recently named and international Heritage by UNESCO. These three important quarters come to their magnificence by the feasts they celebrate in June in honor of the well-known saints. In addition, you can visit the Graça quarter and the churches of São Vicente de Fora and Santa Engrácia on feet since they are very close.
