This tiny enclave – it is the second smallest country in the world – on the southern coast of France , has an ambiance like no other. Attractions in Monaco The City of Monaco offers a spectacular view of the harbor sparkling with luxury yachts. The major attractions of the town are the Palace of the Prince, the Gardens of San Martin, and the Oceanographic Museum and Aquarium. Other museums here include the Museum of Napoleonic Relics and the Wax Museum of the Princes of Monaco.

Montecarlo’s fame originated from its casinos, especially the renowned Grand Casino of Montecarlo, the most famous casino in the world. It is situated in the Plaza of Gold surrounded by luxurious hotels, restaurants, and boutiques. Other attractions are the Japanese Gardens , the National Museum of Dolls and Antique Clocks, and the Exotic Garden with its vast collection of native and foreign plants. The famous Opera of Montecarlo is architecturally interesting, being built in a unique baroque style. For shopping, go to La Condamine or the Plaza de Oro in Montecarlo.  Amidst lovely subtropical gardens you will find upscale boutiques, shops, bars, and restaurants. La Condamine is also a favorite spot for enjoying Monaco ’s beaches. In Fortvieille, visitors can see over 150 varieties of roses in the Princess Grace Rose Garden. Nearby you can view the Classic Car Collection of Prince Rainier with over 100 cars, the Naval Museum , and the Zoological Garden.

After an evening in the casinos, patrons often retire to the popular Sass Café for drinks.

Dining in Monaco

Whatever is your dining wish, you will find it in Monaco , from the sublime cuisine of luxury restaurants to the fare of simple portside cafes. Although there is a variety of Asian and continental restaurants here, the French influence is predominant. Specialties include: barbagiuan made of rice, spinach, leeks, and cheese; fougasse, made with oranges, nuts, almonds, and anise; and stocafi, codfish cooked in tomato sauce. As in other Mediterranean countries, seafood dishes – lobster, fish, shrimp – are mainstays of the menu.

Getting Around in Monaco

  Monaco has no airport and arrivals by air come into Niza 13 miles away. There is helicopter service to Monaco (135 euros). Buses go from the airport at Niza directly into Monaco and to the major hotels and offer service throughout the principality. There are excellent bus connections to towns outside of Monaco . Taxis and rental cars are available. Trains connect Monaco with cities in neighboring France and from Marseille a high speed train (TGV) connects with Paris . Monaco is equipped to handle yachts of any size in the harbors of Condamine, Fontvieille, and Monaco Bay .
