Veracruz

Arriving at the known port of Veracruz, you feel the heat and taste of the Mexican Gulf. Especially in this city, where the heat lasts all the year long, you will meet a lot of dark-skinned people with a dialect similar to that of Central America.
Veracruz is mainly a great industrial and petrol port, but, nevertheless, the city glows with an own and unique charm, therefore being unavoidable for the tourists. Like a happy and festive city, every year in February the famous Carnival of Veracruz is celebrated with a lot of fun and activities. The 'Zócalo' or main square is said to be the most active in Mexico, because all the day and nearly all the night you can listen to the typical music: trio, marimba, salsa and danzón.

It is fine to stroll along the levee or sit down to watch big ships arriving and leaving the port. Don't miss a visit at the Great Café of the Parish, where people enjoy drinking the delicious coffee of the land like others did it for more than a century. Veracruz offers the biggest and best-equipped aquarium of all Latin America situated at the south of the levee. Its great variety of impressive sharks is really remarkable.

A visit at the sensational, more than 500 years old fortress of San Juan de Ulúa will be unforgettable; originally built with coral walls to stop pirate attacks, step by step it became a high security jail.
