Puerto Escondido
Puerto Escondido is a little town known as a paradise for surfers in Mexico, and the economy is based on tourism; although there is a lot of other business in Puerto Escondido, fishing is still an important source of income.
The atmosphere, you can experience in the streets, is relaxed, and in spite of having a very good hotel infrastructure, you can still observe more inhabitants than tourists, so that you can enjoy the Mexican way of town life.
The most important tourist zone reaches from the main beach, where fishing boats are anchoring, up to 'Fondeadero' beach, where people enjoy the water. After a bend you will come to the long beach of Zicatela, the meeting point for surfers and body board lovers, who come to this place lured by the numerous waves considered to be a little dangerous. So please, be careful when bathing.
After sundown and at night it is a very nice idea to walk along the promenade, leading parallel to the bay, where many shops are offering typical crafts and souvenirs of this zone to take home. You will meet a lot of persons, which enjoy the pleasant atmosphere in the restaurants and bars offering live music.
At daytime, you can hire a boat in the bay and visit the wonderful turtles or 'camaguas' (as this type is called in the Caribbean) dwelling in this part of the Pacific Ocean. The trip consists of sailing away and looking for turtles; when the bargeman is so lucky to see one, he will try to catch it and show it to the tourists, but for sure, free it again.
