Guadalajara
The second most populated and important city of Mexico is Guadalajara, founded in 1532. This very charming place is well known as the origin of the mariachis and famous for the tequila and the richest artisan centers of the country called 'Tlaquepaque'.
The historic center of the city is gathering the main tourist attractions: the enormous cathedral, which is the symbol of Guadalajara, with the 'Rotonda de Hombres Ilustres' on the right and the Government palace on the left; behind the cathedral you will find the theater 'Teatro Degollado', a building from the 19th Century and walking on to the east you'll reach 'Hospicio Cabañas', a fascinating building with marvelous murals painted by José Clemente Orozco. Nearby, the picturesque market 'San Juan de Dios', and the Mariachis Square offer good opportunities for shopping and tasting the Mexican way of life. Leaving the heart of the city, a little further from downtown, you can find the gothic temple 'El Expiatorio' and the church of Zapopan in the same called municipality.
The town of Tlaquepaque at the east of the city is totally engaged to the fine craftsmanship of the zone and world-famous for its products, so you should not miss to go there. The little town Tonalá offers also a great variety of crafts at very convenient prices.
