Welcome to Trentino-Alto Adige, the Italian Alps!
Alto Adige is an exceptional Italian region that belonged to the Italien empire ever since the Middle Age, and became Italian in 1918. Today it is a case of peaceful and profitable coexistence of different cultures and languages within a land of extraordinary beauty and prosperity.
The elegant Bolzano (or Bozen) is a lovely market town up in the Dolomites and the capital of Alto Adige. You could be in Germany in fact, with Alpine architecture and restaurants serving strudel, speck and goulash. Bolzano is a very pretty town featuring a museum that houses the Ice Man, a perfectly preserved Copper Age male. Sit at a café in Bolzano and you can gaze out upon the snow-capped jagged edge peaks of the Dolomites. There is excellent skiing, great walking and fascinating uplands. Alto Adige is a fine hiking country, too, when the snows melt in summer.
