The Parliament: Built in 1902, it was the largest parliament building in the world and this neo-Gothic building has been one of the most relevant monuments since the 20th century.
Citadella: This fortress was built back in 1854 by the Austrians to prevent a revolution from Budapest. Then when the imperial army of Austria withdrew from the fortress, the Hungarians made visible marks on its walls to show their independence. Rising above the Citadella is the 14m-tall Liberation Monument.
Hungarian State Opera House (Magyar Állami Operaház): It was finished in 1884. This neo-Renaissance opera house is amazingly beautiful yet the inner side is even more astonishing. It features gilt and marble, with lavish and intricate frescos.
Royal Palace (Budavári Palota): This royal palace was reconstructed by King Matthias in a spectacular Renaissance style but it was originally built for the kings of Hungary during the 13th century. Today it holds different state museums and the National Library as well. However, it was destroyed and kept as ruins for many decades.
