Monterrey

The third biggest city of Mexico is Monterrey representing an important commercial and industrial center, where a lot of great business groups and big private enterprises have their origin. It is not a very tourist city, but it has an own special charming and the surroundings are of great and impressing natural beauty. Fans of interesting architecture and modern art are here at the right place. The Contemporary Art Museum (MARCO), built by the Mexican architect Luis Barragán, with an excellent collection of American art, is only one point to visit. Here you can enjoy from time to time traveling expositions of international level. The museum is located in the 'Macro Plaza' (downtown) in the Zaragoza Square in the middle of the Cathedral and the Municipal Palace with a modern art gallery, which keeps pieces of important Mexican artists, such as Siqueiros, Orozco, Rivera and Tamayo. Some further onto the west you will find the Church 'Purísima Concepción', which is a superb example of the Mexican architecture of 1940.

The Pink Zone of Monterrey is filled up with hotels and other tourist facilities that are situated in an Old Neighborhood with traditional buildings and offers an agitated nightlife. The Museum of the Bishopric built on a hill in the west of the Pink Zone with the famous 'Cerro de la Silla' (so called because of the shape of its top) keeps remains of the North American invasion of 1846 and offers an impressing panoramic view of the city.

Last but not least, you can visit the first and biggest brewery of Mexico in Monterrey called Cuauhtémoc.
